FPA Support-Patient Coordinator- FPA Operations, 2388198
Greets and establishes first contact withpatients. Confirms and updates patient demographics and verifies insurance asnecessary to ensure that patients have appropriate insurance for physician theyare seeing. Responsibilities may include provides secretarial and clinicalsupport to Physicians & Surgeons in a faculty practice setting.
This position will require consistent rotation in variousFaculty Practices; flexibility is a must. Must be able to adapt quickly to a growing andchanging environment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Greet patientseither in person or via telephone, enter and update theirinsurance/demographics in the practice management system.
Verifies patients'insurance coverage prior to patient's appointment and advised patient of anyinsurance referrals or authorizations needed. Prior to patient's arrival or atminimum at time of arrival before visit.
Communicate withappropriate staff regarding patient's arrival, and ensure that patient'smedical record is available for physician.
Process/updateHIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
Collect orretrieve referrals or insurance authorizations for procedures and tests orderedby attending physician.
Review status ofwaiting room on a routine basis and ensure that patients are kept advised ofwait times.
May enter ordersinto the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refillrequests on behalf of the physician for the review and approval by the orderingphysician.
Ensures thatpatient has paid co-pay or collects co-pay under direction of billing staff,providing patient with receipt following established cash-control processes.
May schedulesurgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifyingtimes with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms asnecessary.
May schedulepatient for follow-up appointment as needed. Provide patient with guidelinesfor requesting medical records, if necessary.
May perform simplecharge entry tasks or enter payments collected from patients and prepareCashier's deposit. Note: duties are mutually exclusive and may not be performedby the same employee.
Answer phones forpractice and schedule appointments, Take detailed clinical phone messages forphysician or advanced allied healthcare provider.
Follow all HIPAAand any other governmental or state agency requirements regarding the appropriatehandling of PHI documents.
May initiatereminder phones calls for next day appointments. Help direct patient flowduring practice hours.

Requirements:
Education: High School graduate/GED.
Experience: Must have a minimum 6 weekstraining on-site which will be provided by FPA practice.
Prefer experiencein a medical office setting, utilizing a computer system for physicianscheduling.
Ability tocommunicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
Effectiveinterpersonal and communications skills required. Excellent telephoneetiquette.
Knowledge ofmedical terminology strongly preferred.
Knowledge ofelectronic medical record and/or billing systems preferred, (not required).
Must be able toadapt to a growing and changing environment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
